100%’d

July 18, 2009

So I finally got around to 100%ing Grand Theft Auto 4 on the Xbox 360, and like I said last time, I highly enjoyed it. From a technical point of view, the engine is fantastic, and it’s making me want to look into open-world technology for my degree’s final year project (Something to do with loading, memory usage, level-of-detail, etc?). I’d certainly enjoy it, but it’d all depending on whether I can do something like this. I’d best learn Direct3D soon, so I’ve got a big advantage off the bat.

Well, I’m not completely 100%, to be honest… just the single-player mode. I still have the multiplayer achievements to get when I buy a Live Gold account, and I’ll probably purchase The Lost and Damned at some point as well when I’m bored.

Other stuff? Went to see Spinnerette last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The place was full of skinheads expecting Brody Dalle to start playing Distillers-style music, and boy, did they look pissed when they first song was over.Oh, and I complete the new Monkey Island episode as well, which was fantastic. Here’s hoping it gets even better.

And because of the release of the new Harry Potter movie, my search results for Tonks are going through the roof. Damnit!

Pigeons and Placements

February 21, 2009

I finished Grand Theft Auto 4 the other day after a 12-hour marathon session, and I can’t really see what all the fuss is about when people were saying “Oh, it’s rubbish”. I personally didn’t see anything wrong with it, it’s no worse (or better) than San Andreas. Maybe it’s because I haven’t played Saints Row 2 much at all – From what I’ve seen, it looks like a fun collection of mini-games, but lacks a solid story. I’m currently going for a 100% (working on hidden ‘packages’ at the moment), and then maybe I’ll buy The Lost and Damned if I have the money and time spare to play it.

In other news, I’ll have to give a thanks to Eutechnyx for giving us a tour of their development studio yesterday – it was great fun, I learnt plenty of things about the industry, and the muffins were indeed excellent. I’ve already sent off my application to their placement scheme, and I’m hoping to get in – It would mean that I wouldn’t have to move across the country, or pay rent, and… hell, I love the North-East. Please don’t make me join the Southerners.
